From the moment the game is booted up it presents its great sense of humor and bright bold colors. The player and their friends each control their own AI crew member in a space ship. The job of the player is to coordinate with their companions to keep the ship from exploding. This is done while rescuing fellow crew members in the form of bunnies, frogs, foxes and ducks, and fending off enemies which are for the most part best described as space bugs. All in the name of restoring peace and love to the universe. On an aesthetic level it is very appealing, using colors like bright pink to represent good and lime green and bold red to represent evil.
Despite having a management and strategy aspect, due to its design it is not a game that is intially intimidating. If you are looking for a way to share your gaming passion with a non-gamer, this is the perfect introduction. It is a very easy game to learn, especially during the first few levels of the game. A more experienced member of the team can handle stations like the engine and the weapons, while a less experienced member could handle a defensive role like shields. As time goes, the stations can be more evenly shared, or not! The game offers something that few games do, flexibility in how you choose to play. It requires communication and team work, but allows you to decide how to manage that aspect.
That all being said, don't be concerned about getting bored. This game isn't overly complicated, but it also isn't overly simplistic. It can keep a seasoned gamer entertained as the difficulty is increased as the game goes on. There is an option to do the bare minimum on a level and just save 5 creatures or go above and beyond and save all 10 creatures. This again, allows for flexibility.
The name of the game calls to couples. As it should, it is well balanced for different ability levels, to gamers and non gamers alike, it can be attractive to a couple that would not normally share gaming. As a female gamer myself, it can sometimes be challenging to find a game with a date. This one has my stamp of approval for the fact that it can appeal to a larger audience than most games. On the original release it was only a 1-2 player experience, but it has recently increased to up to 4, so now it can be something shared with friends and family.
One of the few downsides is that this is definitely a game best played with controllers, this could be considered an upside if you already have them but definitely a downside if you tend to be a keyboard and mouse player. It also does not offer online co-op. Still this game presents itself as exactly what it is, a great couch co-op experience. With a price tag of $14.99 USD it is a game that is well worth the time and money.
